Procurad'e moderare
Barones, sa tirannia
Chi si no pro vida mia
Torrades a pés in terra

Decrarada est giaj sa gherra
Contra de sa prepotentzia
Incomintzat sa passentzia
In su populu a mancare

Mirade ch'est pesende
Contra de bois su fogu
Mirade chi no est jogu
Chi sa cosa andat 'e veras

Mirade chi sas aeras
Minetan su temporale
Zente cunsizzada male
Iscurtade sa boghe mia

Custa, populos, est s'ora
D'estirpare sos abusos
A terra sos malos usos
A terra su dispotismu

Gherra, gherra a s'egoismu
E gherra a sos oppressores
Custos tirannos minores
Est pretzisu umiliare

Sardegna Adventures – Archaeology

Sardinia holds a true world record as regards Archaeology since each remote little town may boast the remains of at least one prehistoric site: as regards the Bronze Age, for instance, a few thousand Nuraghic towers have been well preserved up to now.
Not to mention that there still exist a number of nuraghic fortresses consisting mainly of a central single tower or donjon which, originally, was more than 20 m high, prehistoric tombs or burial chambers better known as the ’Tombs of Giants’ and many other religious buildings such as holy wells.

All of this represents a real museum under the open sky to which most ancient archaeological witnesses dating back to the Neolithic period should be added, specifically the peculiar monuments and rock-cut tombs called ‘Domus de Janas’ (house of Fairies). Furthermore, the Punic cities, remains of the Roman civilization are still visible today.
In some towns it seems to breathe an atmosphere of authentic Middle Age particularly at Castelsardo, Iglesias or Bosa where a village and a noteworthy castle have lasted in an almost untouched state.

Sardinia, the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea (24089 km², 7,5% of the Italian territory), is set in the central area of the Mediterranean’s western basin which favours it as a land of transition.
It is placed in a good junction of naturalistic environments ranging from the Italian to the Iberian and African, more precisely on the longitudinal border set between the eastern and western sides of the Mediterranean basin, in a strategic point of both military and economic interests that has made the meeting of cultural and ethnical elements possible. As a consequence, once joined and merged, those elements gave place to a number of cultures whose aspects became characteristic and fascinating through time.

Although the island settled these peculiar forms of civilization mainly during the Nuraghic Era, many of their basic and elementary features continue today so that Sardinia is thought of as a true ‘natural’ museum for the South European ethnography.
